Yes, You May Laugh....

So... Luke's in Japan this week. I'm {attempting} being all super-mom like and not copping out and serving cold cereal for dinner last night. Feeling like a hero, single-momming it like a boss.  Making spaghetti for dinner and all.
The timer for the pasta rings. Just like 957 times before, I take the pot off the stove to drain the pasta into a colander in the sink. But this time, this fateful time when Luke is 1/2 a world away, some boiling water dribbles down the side of the pot and onto my bare foot...
Being the reactionary sort of person I am, I jerk. Apparently quite hard. And I kick the cabinet. Quite hard. I jerk my foot up again, still balancing a pot of boiling pasta and water... and my foot comes down in the trash can. And the pot comes down on the edge of the sink. And the boiling water comes down on my face. And I go down on my knees on the floor, holding the pot, with my foot still in the trash can. I jump up. The pot slams onto the countertop, sloshing boiling water into a tidal wave across the counter.
Somehow my glasses have been ejected from my face. I can't see. Partially because I can't see well without my glasses, and partially because I just had boiling water sloshed on my face and my eye is now swelling shut.
Yea, this is going good... super {klutz} mom award RIGHT HERE!
And now there are six bug-eyed kids trying to decide what on earth their mom is doing... I take one look in the bathroom mirror and realize this wasn't just a passing thing. I call Luke's mom... they're on their way, they say. They arrive as one kid is mopping the counter, one mopping the floor, one pulling all of the igloo ice packs we own out of the freezer, two are sitting at the table waiting patiently for spaghetti, and one asking their mom in one borderline-annoying, unending sentence, "Are you okay? Are you okay? Areyouokay?! AREYOUOKAY?!?!"
I have somehow managed to grab a towel, soak it in cold water and put it on my face. I thought there was a great likelihood that my face was melting off... at least it felt that way. The whole time I'm telling the kids, "Don't worry, it's okay, it just hurts a little bit..."  and biting my lip to keep from crying. Becky takes one look, calls the urgent care clinic which is just closing. They say go to the ER. So she calls a Dr friend. He says go to the ER. So Ward feeds the kids dinner and Becky takes me to the ER, after ensuring that I've taken 3 Advil.
By the time we get in the waiting room, my swollen eye is seeing white, purple, and blue neon lights. That was interesting... to say the least. I have no depth perception without my glasses on and the waiting room is packed full of people in spandex and slippers- I can see that much. At this point I decide maybe I'd better let Luke know I'm at the ER... thankfully he didn't get the text right away...  I told him it was no big deal.
So. Once we got the cool cloth off in the room, we see the swelling has GREATLY went down and it is clear that my eye itself was missed- thanks to my trusty bifocal glasses! The nurse and Dr both have to ask me to repeat the story, check my foot and arm to ensure there is no burn damage there (just a 3 inch long bruise on my foot and a small surface burn on my arm). They shake their heads a little bit, and try not to snicker (I'm certain they're thinking maybe we should dine out next time). Turns out I have 1st and 2nd degree burns on my forehead and cheek. Not nearly as major as it first seemed- THANKFULLY. It's blistering nicely on my forehead and in my hairline. They gave me some antibiotic burn cream and sent us on our merry way.
I seriously am mortified. I think that this fiasco takes the cake for the bazaar accidents I've been involved in- and this coming from someone who has broken their collarbone walking down a driveway.  Sometimes I amaze myself.

Sigh...

On we go with our week.

Hope yours is a wee bit less eventful.
